Dickinson v Dodds (1876)
In the afternoon of Thursday 11 June Dickinson was informed by Berry that Dodds
had been offering or agreeing to sell the property to Allan. Dickinson then
went to the house of Mrs Burgess, the mother-in-law of Dodds, where he was then
staying, and left with her a formal acceptance in writing of the offer to sell
the property: this document never in fact reached Dodds, Mrs Burgess having
forgotten to give it to him. In fact on Thursday 11 June Dodds had signed a formal contract for the sale
of the property to Allan for £800, and had received from him a deposit of £40. Q Had Dodds withdrawn his offer before 0900 hrs on 12 June? YES
